Crane Cam XR700 - which coil?

Hello!

I have to say.. this forum is a great learning tool! So far you guy's have really filled in some blanks
It's time to replace the coil in my 78. Currently there is a Bobina Klitz G52S 12Volt Olio (red) installed with a Crane Cam XR700

After reading around.. I'm a little backwards on the replacement. (Mine looks about 1000 years old)

Will you please provide a little assistance?

Thats a pretty awesome option... just looked into it, and is out of my budget

Does anyone have a coil match for the Fireball XR700?

I upgraded my ignition from dual points to the Allison X700 electronic ignition in 1984. Crane bought out Allison years ago but I believe it is the same optical breaker system. I always used the standard coil without a problem. About 8 years ago my original coil failed and I replaced it with the Bosch Blue you show at Vicks. I actually bought two, one to use and one as a back-up. They are not cheap but the piece of mind of having a spare makes my drives much more fun.

Just keep your internal distributor cap contacts and rotor contacts spotlessly clean and you will have thousands of miles of smiles!

Like Bulldog4444, I ran a Crane XR700 with a Bosch Blue coil. The Crane unit ultimately failed, operating sporadically especially as engine compartment temperatures increased. I replaced it with a Pertronix Ignitor installed with thermal transfer paste as suggested by Mark. I've experienced smooth and flawless operation since that change.

Perfect! Looks like I am going the Bosch direction... I will post my findings in a few weeks (too much workload right now)

The classic Bosch Blue worked just fine
