Steering wheel conversion question
Steering wheel conversion question
I have a Fiat 124 Spider and the steering wheel is stock. I'm interested in converting it to a quick release (removable steering wheel). Where can I buy one for my model? Any comments or advice?

If you don't mind me asking...serious question...why?
Re: Steering wheel conversion question
One of our 3 New Jersey Spider experts, Brady Jones, has a removable wheel in his custom Spider. Here is a picture of it attached:
Here is Brady & Doneen receiving the award presentation for the Best Fiat at the Hemmings Sports & Exotic Car Show at Saratoga Springs last August.
The car is amazing. There are probably some old posts with other pictures but here are a couple to give you an idea:
His attention to detail is stunning. You should see his finished trunk. Unfortunately Brady and the other guys are no longer permitted to post on this forum so we can’t benefit here from their extensive expertise. Brady can be found on the Facebook page “Everything Fiat 124” and he is always willing to share his knowledge. He is currently building a 124 Abarth Rally replica and you can follow his progress. It is going to be amazing.

Re: Steering wheel conversion question
I loved my momo wheel from previous cars and the little flexible wood wheel is pathetic sooo...
bought a hub off 82 124 bolted it on my 76 and my momo wheel bolted right on horn button works perfect as well.
buy a steering wheel hub off fuel injected car, buy ebay momo style quick release, done

I wouldn't suggest you recommend anyone deal with Brady. He ripped me off as well as several others
Re: Steering wheel conversion question
You should be able to get quick release steering wheel hub kits from most race oriented vendors. This is a fairly normal mod for a race car. I bought an ex-ITC X1/9 and it had this mod. A male receiver was welded on to the steering shaft and the female quick release hub was welded to the back of a later year Fiat steering wheel hub. No provision for a horn button but there may be non-race kits that provide for this.

Brady does mostly all his own work. So the design of the mods and the fabrication are all his own. He prepped the car for paint and did his own upholstery.

This thread is in no way promoting to buy products from Brady. He's not a vendor and he does not advertise to sell products, he's a guy who is very talented in Fiat restoration and he's kind enough to share his knowledge and progress. If anything, his followers at times may solicit him to fabricate gadgetry. He does not chase for business. His FB page contains no classified ads nor people protesting that they got ripped off.
Mark, that remark was uncalled for and frankly it's not cool, if anything, it's slanderous and it goes against your own TOS.
Bad business deals even happen amongst good people, use that experience to strengthen you and be the better person.
Happy New Year

I feel it's my responsibility to warn others of dealing with him. He cheated me out of $1200 and I hate to see others fall into his trap.
