resetting odometer

Post by spiderman1 »

I am replacing my speedometer cable and need to reset the odometer. Is that hard to do? Also is there already three on this that I may have missed?.
Thanks for the help. I already have the dash our-I am just curious if the actual resetting part is hard?

If you are just replacing your speedometer cable, no need to reset the the odometer. Just connect you cable and go on !

Mark is correct, he ought to know, in most states it's against the law to "tamper" with odometer readings. That said there are plenty of YouTube videos on how to disassemble and reset the counters. Most can be found under odometer repair

I should have been more specific. My odometer must not be the original because it has 900 miles on it, looks newer than a 1982, (34 years old) and the PO says best to his knowledge the car has 67000 million it. At some point they were traded out but the instrument panel was not working until I found the short in the gas gauge.

Do you have a State Title trail that would give you a good idea of the approximate likely mileage :?: Not sure about NC, but in MA we can see the trail when cars change hands, so you can get a pretty good idea of what it should approx. be and set it to that.

Sorry-I should have proofed my last reply-I typed it too late-The PO believes it has around 67,000 miles on the engine- not 67 million
