Rust !!!!!!!!!!!
Rust !!!!!!!!!!!
So this car is solid everywhere but floors, and they are extremely bad, with the look of the pics and knowing everywhere else is good how many would walk away and say part it out ?http://s1036.photobucket.com/user/runni ... sort=3&o=3 http://s1036.photobucket.com/user/runni ... sort=3&o=0

Re: Rust !!!!!!!!!!!
If this is the same car you posted photos in Feb, i would not walk away. The rust work is localized in one area. Others here have saved cars in alot worse shape.
Re: Rust !!!!!!!!!!!
Oh I have no intention of walking away, that's all repairs I can handle, just curious of others opinions on that mess

Re: Rust !!!!!!!!!!!
I'd say save it however you seem to have gone a bit overboard cutting up the rear cross member. Most find it salvageable and release the spot welds from the floor pans and then fix any parts of the cross members flanges that have rot on them:Wvtim wrote:So this car is solid everywhere but floors, and they are extremely bad, with the look of the pics and knowing everywhere else is good how many would walk away and say part it out ?http://s1036.photobucket.com/user/runni ... sort=3&o=3 http://s1036.photobucket.com/user/runni ... sort=3&o=0

Yep and I had hoped to salvage the cross member but it was too far gone, so out it came to try and do it the best way I could, don't plan on using the back seat again so after all is welded back I will weld a solid cross member piece across the top of cross member about 2" high, should give good strength back and add space for storage, if that makes any sense to anybody.
I had no choice the cross member was junk.

If that's all the rust you have to deal with, save it!. Floors are the easy bits

Curious, about the cross member partial removal. Should a temporary metal support be added to prevent any body flex/sag. Or is there enough support with remaining unibody bits

Re: Rust !!!!!!!!!!!
I went through the IDENTICAL process except i had to cut out the entire passenger's side floor pan. I salvaged bits from the old cross member and patched it up pretty thoroughly and welded it back in. I recommend you do the same. one day you'll regret not keeping it original and who knows...one day these cars might even be rare or valuable =) probably not but save the potential next owner some grief. I found my driver's side and passenger's side outer seat rails were supported by a steel angle welded to the sill. I cursed the person who just didnt do the job right.
