Hi guys,
Brought my car in to have the steering looked at, the mechanic has a 124 Coupe, one of the last models with the uglier larger bumpers and 1800 engine (not sure if it has the engine)
Its in rough shape, significant rust around bottom of the rear window, will need new panels, have not really inspected the underside, wheel wells or anything really. It does however look all there.
I was think of asking him how much he would let it go for. I understand the Coupe is now insanely rare because they rusted really fast.
Would it be worth it to get one in rough but not hopeless shape and what price would you all pay for one?
Thanks!

Re: 124 Coupe prices
My friend recently bought a fairly solid BC (arguably the nicest looking) with 1608 for $3k. He swapped on his hopped 2l frim his spider to have a running car but hasnt done the bodywork yet. Atbthe same time he bought a second rough parts car, all there, for $500.
If yours has bad rust and possibly no drivetrain there is very little value IMHO.

Re: 124 Coupe prices
I know a lot about this topic, but perhaps I only know very little. In a sense, if you are happy enough it doesn't matter anyway, right? I suppose things to remember is some of the trim parts for these cars is very hard to find. One that is missing or has damaged detail bits are probably not great candidates to build beautiful cars. since the driveline is fully shared with the more common (now, here, that is) Spider, with dedication any 124C could be a very cool car. I think the slightly longer wheelbase is excellent and have always preferred the Coupe to the spider for most every reason I can think of.

Saw the Coupe on BAT. Prices are definitely trending upwards. Chris Granju-- I remember that name from the Coupe registry.

Re: 124 Coupe prices
still a Coupe owner after all these years! In fact, I recently re-acquired the first one I owned...the 1970 BC that probably still is listed on the registry.
I have some concerns about what that BaT pricing will do to the gut level fun these cars provide. I'd hate to see showroom restorations being the thing.....

Re: 124 Coupe prices
They are still half the price of Alfas, and they are getting thin on the ground, so I think 10 - 15K is a nice price point to ensure that many at least get a thorough check and repair for rust, instead of a cheap patch and blow over.
I think often we forget that time (and inflation) marches on. That 5K bargain we picked up in 1996... well it just has to go up.

Re: 124 Coupe prices
The BaT auction ended at $13'900, for a very good car. Nice.
Get them while you can (says the guy who just sold his).
