Gas tank breather hose leaking fuel
There is a what i thought to be a breather hose of sorts that runs from the gas tank into the engine compartment. On mine, it runs up near to the charcoal canister but is not connected to it. That hose is now leaking fuel. Not the place you want leaking gasoline. Its higher than the gas tank, so not sure how this is happening...any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Gas tank breather hose leaking fuel
If yours is fuel injected, this would be the hookup diagram for the venting hoses. I think the part for the carbed version car would be correct regarding the charcoal canister too. It may be that the canister is blocked and someone pulled a line to allow air to flow through. There should be a good noticeable vacuum when you pull the small round cap off of the top and put your thumb over the hole. (and there should be a cap on this hole, the cap meters the amount of air pulled back into the intake manifold, etc.

Re: Gas tank breather hose leaking fuel
Thanks, those are great diagrams. Mine is carbureted though with a replacement 32/36 Weber and an earlier model single plane intake manifold. Most of the emissions items have been long since removed, although there are a few hoses heading into the charcoal canister from below that come off the engine. The breather from the tank stops just short of the canister...sounds like I should lengthen that hose and attach it to the top of the canister? Somehow that breather hose ended up with fuel in it. I have since blown through the hose and heard the fuel splash back into the tank; it doesn't seem obstructed in any way. But the only thing i can think of is the tank was somehow pressurized enough to push fuel into that hose, or perhaps it was overfilled. Scratching my head on this one, as this has never happened before..

That loop above part #5 represents a physical loop that should be up in the rear wheel well above the axle and high enough to keep raw tank fuel from getting back through the separator and to the canister. Baffling. Sorry, I don't have the diagram for a carbed version.

I think the top of the cannister is usually the exit which goes to somewhere on intake to be burned.

Correct on the FI system, and the cap-over-hole provides makeup air for the sealed gas tank, and air to flush the canister of gas fumes, back into the intake plenum.

On my 77, the 2nd hose is a return line which attaches to the carburetor at the inlet barb. The 32 ADFA has 2 hose barbs for this purpose.
