FUEL PUMP

Post by DANSRIDE »

I have a 1976 Fiat Spider and the other day while driving, it died. I checked and found that there was no power going to the Fuel Pump. The battery was fine and all the lights worked. I hooked up a battery charger directly to the pump and it started. I figure it's a bad fuse, but I can't seem to locate it. I think there's an "inline" fuse some place but can't locate it. Also when I turn on the ignition I hear no noise from the pump. Before it would start clicking as soon as I turned the key. Can it be some problem with the ignition switch it'self? Does anyone know which wire goes to the pump from the switch?
any help would be appreciated.
thanks

THere's also a relay in that circuit. Try replacing it with a known good one.

ok, i have been doing some "research" on this.

yes there is an inline fuse 24/4 in the wiring diagram - should have a pink wire going into and out of it. if you go to the fuse box and go to the second fuse from the passenger side - it should have a pink wire going to it, follow that wire from there until you find the fuse.

yes it also has a relay.

if the pump is making noise but not pumping it probably means the impeller is shot. if its making noise you probably have power - put a mutlimeter on the leads and see what it reads.
