Hard Hot Starting Issue Solved ???

Post by DUCeditor »

I've been dealing with this now for a couple of seasons, but of late it had worsened some.

My `77 started beautifully when cold and ran well with no issues beyond an occasional momentary spit back, probably about the time when the choke system turned off or was just about to. If I stopped her and then went to restart her within a minute or two all would be well, but if she sat for a couple of minutes or more she'd simply not catch. No approach to using the throttle would change that. But fifteen minutes or so sitting and she immediately catch again.

The best answer I could come up with was vapor lock, so this past week I replaced the fuel hoses with somewhat longer ones, and put in place a metal WIX filter instead of the (somewhat dirty appearing) clear one -- this time, thanks to the longer hoses -- with the filter some distance away from the motor.

Several long runs followed by sitting and restarts suggest that the problem has been solved, although I have yet to try it when the ambient temperature is very high.
