Inconsistent idel
I've got a 77 Spider with the 1.8L and a Weber carb. Randomly the idel will drop to almost nothing and the car will almost stall. I can't seem to figure out what causes the idel to drop so far down randomly. Sometimes it goes days without an issue and other times I have to hold in the gas pedal at red lights so the car doesn't die. Anybody have an idea of whats going on or where I should start to get this worked out? Once I adjusted the idel speed and fuel mixture to bring the idel back to normal and the next day it was ideling way too high.

I had a similar problem on my '77. It was suggested to clamp or cap off the brake booster vacuum hose and see if that helps with stalling. Brakes will be hard to push. Test was indeterminate in my case but a newly rebuilt carb solved all my idle issues.

Thanks guys! I'll start with the vacuum lines and see what happens.

Well I think I worked it out. As I was checking the vacuum lines I discovered that the carburetor itself was only hand tight and was obviously causing a vacuum leak. After I got the carb tight I took it for a 20 minute test drive without issue. I guess I'll be checking every nut and bolt I can get my hands on since the PO has left a few things a bit loose.
