I assume you still have the stock 1979 California spec electronic distributor. There's more than one advance spec used in these units. More info on your options here: archive.mirafiori.com/show.php?fid=2&msg=130861

If you have a California spec distributor, think about substituting a 49 state unit. It brings the full advance in sooner. The vacuum advance is shot on a good portion of the Spiders with cam box distributors due to the heat of the exhaust. Add additional static timing to compensate.
Autoricambi used to carry the springs. Make sure the advance is lubed and actually working. A setback timing light is a big help. Distributors are fairly simple and similar in operation. If you can find a distributor overhaul shop they will be a big help in overhauling and recurving the unit and providing the proper springs.

Good advice on the shop. Theres a shop herebin portland that will rebuild a dizzy new springs etc as needed for about $100.

But...

If i had that motor i would splurge on Allisons distributorless setup...
