Installing aftermarket dual locking seat sliders

Post by kmoses »

My '79 spider had seat sliders that that were worn enough that the non-locking slide side of the seat moved allot. After ordering replacement slides from ebay that were always in worse condition than mine, I started looking for aftermarket slides. This is what I found that fits and is almost a bolt on. The ebay item # is 121857523909 and the seller is "click2buyhere". The hole at the back of the slide where it mounts to the seat needed to be slotted 1/16" on each rail and the unlocking handle needed to be shortended 1/4" and angled to clear the seat pan. The adjusting bar is push down to unlock the slides. The rails are 5/16" taller than stock but this allows the use of a bolt and washer to attach the rails to the seat pan and socket cap screws to attach the rails to the floor with plenty of clearance as they slide past each other. The following photos show how they fit. I must say, having both seat rails locked in position is nice!

Thanks for this post. I was reinstalling my seats in my 79 and remembered what a PITA it was getting the seat to slide all the way because it kept jamming. When I went to put them back in, I made sure the non-locking tracks had one ball in each half and were no longer jamming. Of course I put the seat in, get the rear screws in, and then it won't slide all the way back, nor will it slide all the way forward again. !@#&* this tip will save the day once I get the seat back out again.

I am almost positive these are late Jeep YJ wrangler tracks for anyone junkyard hunting. 91-95 IIRC.

I just installed one side and these are the deal of the century. $55 for a pair on amazon too.

Literally just slightly enlarge one hole on each track, cut 1/4" off each side of the latch bar, and make a few 5 degree bends on that latch bar to account for fiat's slighly wider width and seat pan and it's bolt in to both the seat bottoms and the floor from there.

These are wider so they'll take a normal sized head m8 philips screw instead of the goofy fiat ones with tiny heads. Or m8 hex head bolts.

I'll post photos when I do the pass. seat hopefully friday that shows what needs to be modified along the way. Anyone with basic tools can do this.

Looks like one of the sliders in my second set doesn't have full range of movement. It doesnt move back far enough to get the rear screw into thd floor on that side and moves forward more than the other one. Guessing something jnside broke loose. Should have known...when i opened yhe box it was obviously messed with before as it didnt hsve the plastic on the grab bar and looked handled before. It's always something, isn't it? Replacement won't be here until next week. So check em before you start egging out holes.

Good news is I believe I fixed a 12" seam in the drivers seat upright cover where the thread had unraveled. Did it by hand, using the existing holes as a guide, and a back stitch by hand. Came out nice and all my sewing experience came from studying google and youtube for half an hour. Showed my wife and daughter the finished product and they couldn't tell where the repair was made. Coolness.
