Helicoil

Post by ralphcap »

Do y'all think it is possible to "helicoil" the 4th and 5th holes in the cylinder head of my FI 2000 Spider that receive the M8x1.25 studs to mount the exhaust manifold?

I put Helicoils in for four of the exhaust manifold studs on my head.

Some of the holes go through to oil low pressure passages so you need to seal them up well. I used a bunch of thread-locker on both the Helicoil and the stud.

Helicoils are ok, Time-Serts are better. The time-sert kit is kinda pricey but instead of just installing a coil that might come out with the stud next time, you install a permanent threaded sleeve that will outlast the head.
