That badge is for the newer generation of Spider owners that don't realize a Spider means convertible and was not necessary on the early cars since....do I have to say it???...we're smarter.
My 70, 71 and 72s do not have a badge on the glove box door and only has the "1608" and "124 Sport" badges on the rear panel.

I always thought that Fiat knew that Pininfarina is a five syllable word and that early 70's owner couldn't pronounce words past 2 syllables, so they left it off and just called it "Sport". :D

Maybe this will help. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spyder It doesn't answer why Fiats don't have badging but it does answer the origins of Spider.

'81 Spider.

Glove box reads Pininfarina Spider 2000

It also reads Spider on the side, although this is rather custom

with the optional lettering on the side, it's important to park with the left front wheel in the proper spot or the S won't line up

5- spider 2000
1- no spider 2000
1- no badge

Obviously the spider 2000 badge must have been the entry level Spider, very common.

Ron, I think you took you badge over to Sears Jewelry Dept. and had them engrave it with Spider 2000. By the way, what did it cost you.LOL
Whats pn my glovebox? My garage door opener remote...... Ok I'll shut up.
