Driver seat back rest is bent.

Post by Fiatracertracer »

My drivers side seat has a back support that is tilting back wards on one side, Is there someway to pull it back into place?

Anybody experience this condition before?

this can be a result of the release hook sliding off the peg allowing the one side to tilt back farther then the other.

I had a similar problem that was due to the seat bottom pan tearing (the metal tore) and the peg moving backward as a result.

It is a very common problem. You'll need to remove the upholstery and weld a brace inside the seat back. I didn't take my seats apart as much as this person, but I used their advice to fix mine. It now is straight and strong!

From what I gather in my recent research, this is a very common problem...I need this fix, also, so thanks!

Here is a pic I downloaded from this website a few weeks ago when I was doing research.

I used this as a starting point and will be welding up my frame this week. I tried to bend my drivers seat back, but could not get it exact. I was able to find an unbent passenger seat to use as my drivers seat.

If you change the link from:
to
...www.fiatspider.com/f15/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=7538

You will be able to follow the link and eliminate the page not found error. The web server changed a few months back and a lot of links are tied to the old server address (I guess, not a web guy).

I had the same thing happen. Mine bent because since I bought the car I had the habit of puttingmy right foot in then my butt againse the back of the seat and sliding doiwn the seat until my but hit the seat. When the upolistry shop took the cover off I had torn the metal seat pan in 3 spots. They repaired the set pan and put the upolistry back on and it has been good for 3 years.

Finally got around to fixing my grangsta lean. I was able to find a good passenger seat for $50. Switched over the single welded nut and added bracing.

Used this as a guide and did mine yesterday. Welded the H together, but then bolted it to the frame. Made a tremendous difference. Thanks!

Just thought I'd double check first - Does anyone sell a prefabricated seat back brace to weld or bolt in? Otherwise, I'll just ask a welder to do the complete job. My seats are stripped down to bare frames with no damage but I would like to brace them before reupholstey.
Thanks, Tony
