seat back

Post by pottsthomas »

I quickly searched the archives and saw no discussion about broken seat backs and how to repair them. Driver's side seat will slowly but surely bend itself back on one side with only a little pressure. Has almost ever since new. Anyone else experience this or am I unique? Anyone have a fix?

very common problem with the late seats, (especially the 82s, haha). The sheet metal at the base of the seatback cracks. You need to remove the upholstery and weld and cracks and add some metal to strengthen it

Hey, was that a crack about our cracks?
Anyway, it's a small price to pay to own the year of Spider, after which, the Fiat company decided they might as well call it quits, they couldn't get any better.

There does seem to be a lot of ''82 envy'' goin on.I think the problem with the seat backs is created by the superior acceleration of the F.I. cars. Ater 2 weeks with no computer...... I've missed you all!

Hey Ron ,I will check that out.I dont consider myself a ''computer guy'' but after being broken down on the side of the information superhighway......I realize I rely on this thing. Is everthing ok w/ the car now? I have been driving mine a lot ,and this weekend I ran into a group of Lotus 7's in Helen ,Ga. I led them over the mountain back to Blairsville, and ate lunch with them.Awesome cars ,but no faster than the Spider thru the curves.A few of them were replicas called Bruton Stalkers and those really accelerated.Good Fun!!

Yeah, I guess you missed the whole saga. I did get the car running, better than ever as a matter of fact. It had a slight miss at idle since I got it and now it just purrs. It will set you back in the seat if you punch it!
The whole saga can be read here if you missed it: http://www.fiatspider.com/f08/viewtopic ... &sk=t&sd=a
Be sure to check out the diagnostic pages for the dual relay and ECU you'll see there, they are great.
