interchangablity of parts

Post by BammBamm »

My 1982 spider project is going well. Engine, tranny, drive line and brakes are done. Next is interior and body. The floor pan is perfect body the body has a little rust in some spots. A few are complex corners that I dont want to fabricate. So im think about getting a donor car to cut up. What year bodies will match mine? I know some parts dont match my 2000. I tried top latches and map pockets but they dont work from earlier model. SHoudl it only be a spider 2000? Will all the parts from a 79 2000 match? Just trying to figure out my options.

Tops were changed in 1978. Some '78s had the flat type and some had the curved types used on 2000 models.

I could also swear there was a change in the windshield frames. I had a hardtop they guy said was from a 76 model. It did not fit my 1980 model at all but fit my friend's 77 like a glove. They only thing I could figure out was the windshields and frames were different.

I got a 78. I wouldn't exactly call that a windshield frame. More like fragile chrome trim. Part of my restoration will have to be a roll bar.

what about hoods? I got a hood that doesnt fit my 82 2000. the hinges are more perpendicular to the hood versus the 45degree angle of the 2000 hood.
