84 Pin 2000 won't keep running

Post by DustyD »

Hi all,

New here with my first post. I'll give you a little back ground on the car then tell you what it's doing. The previous owner had the injectors cleaned and some fuel lines and the filter replaced. It ran for a while then it died and he got sick of throwing money at it. I bought the car 2 years ago. It didn't run at the time. He had let it sit for a year or so.

I brought it home and pulled the fuel tank, took it to a radiator shop had it boiled out and a liner kit installed. Put the tank back in it with a new filter and pump and it ran like a champ. I drove it a fair amount maybe 1500 miles or so without any problems.

Money got tight and I let it sit for 8 months or so. When I went to fire it up it didn't want to run for me. Now, I want it running again I drained the fuel out and put fresh in. I can get it to start right up and I can drive it about 60 feet and it dies. If I try to restart it it will idle for a few seconds but then it dies again. I can let it sit for a few hours. I'm not sure how many minimum but over night seems to do the trick and I can drive it another 60 feet then it dies. I can't figure it out any help would be apprciated.

I can put my foot into the accelerator when I first fire it up and get it to around 4000 rpm but it drops fast and I can't get it to rev that fast again unless I let it sit. The problem has been getting a little worse as time goes by but it seems to have stopped about here. I was able to drive 160 or 180 feet to begin with a week or two ago.

check the air flow meter to ensure the flap isn't stuck, or sticking somewhere in its' travel. Also make sure the intake boot isn't loose or split. After that, it sounds like you may be running on only the cold start injector. You'll need to review the FI troubleshooting manual to do much more, and you'll need a volt/ohmmeter

Ok, thanks for the fast reply. Where can I find a FI troubleshooting manual?
