Are you using the plastic / rubber air flow boot or a metal one? If I can make do without the shield I'll toss it .....

Exhaust manifold - didn't hear anything after that was removed. Bolts were tight so I'm not sure how / why that was happening.

It has a second layer on its underside with the insulation. Probably a separation between the two layers?

Thought I'd contribute to this thread. I've been having a rattle on my '82 at 3000 rpm emanating from the passenger side of the engine. Checked the metal guard behind the timing belt cover (rattled), heat shields (no rattles), splash guard under engine (rattled) and isolated any contacts with engine accessories. Finally found it by noticing that my downpipe (4-2-1 installed by the PO) contacted the block. I loosened the stabilizer bracket and reefed on it and pried a small gap and re-tightened the bracket. All quiet now, so I go back to obsessing over the dash rattles...
