Shifter plate

Post by rodo »

Unbolted the thin metal plate that covers the hole above the tranny and surrounds the shifter. Cut some new foam and am ready to bolt it back on. The plate has two holes: one for the shifter and one for...? My aging mind thinks that something went in or came out of that but I can't find anything down by the tranny. If that is not to pass a wire/connector through, what is the function of that other, smaller hole?

The small hole is for a grommet that the backup switch wires go through.

Thanks, Kmoses. Just before I logged on I took a look down by the tranny with a flashlight and saw the back up switch wires. Hadn't noticed thembefore as they had fallen down and sort of bent underneath. Got it up and through and the plate installed. Now I just have to figure out which of the million dangling wires it plugs in to.

The transmission backup light switch plugs into this connector on my '79 spider 2000.
