Engine trouble?

Post by meman124 »

Hi,

When checking under the spider to find a rattle (loose exhaust hanger bolt), i found that the oil pan breathing tube is acting as a secondary exhaust.

I assume i have one or more cylinders leaking. Oilpressure not so great also.

Can i fix this myself? How do i go about?

Thanks for helping!

I assume you mean the crankcase ventillation tube that goes to the air cleaner? If there is a lot of gases coming out it means the piston rings are worn out, so likely it is time to rebuild the engine. A lot of people choose to do this themselves, it depends on your mechanical skill if you can do it.

Thanks.

Yes. Cranck case ventilation. I my case the tube does not go to the air cleaner, but hangs under the car?

Is there a outline or manual on how to exchange the piston rings?

Any of the repair manuals available for the Spider will have the procedure.Be sure the one you get covers your engine (1438cc?).

It used to be a 1.4L, but the previous owner replaced it with a 1.8L + twin IDF40 setup + bonnet with the 2 bulges...
Will need to find the proper manual.
Thanks!

OK, pretty much all of them cover the 1.8. I'd recomment the factory shop manual. Don't bother with a Chilton's manual, it's worse than useless.
