Rubbing block on breaker points melting

Is your new coil is missing a ballast resistor? The old, Bosch Blue coil, has an integrated resistor. FIAT original coils would have had an external ballast resistor:

Without the resistor the points will melt.

Also a bad condenser will cause the points to melt.

Would the coil run hot without the resistor?
Just noticed, while working on the electrical system with the ignition key on, but engine not running, that the ignition coil got extremely hot. To hot to even touch so is was trying to figure out what is happening.

Should i just order one of these extrernal ballast resistors or bosh blue coils?

that is what the ballast resistor if for, some coils don't need them but others do.

coils will get extremely hot with the key on, depending on the position of the points
