In first gear my car stops "pulling" at about 5k rpms. Is that normal, i know its normal to shift then but should it just give up over 5k?

Thanks

I'd say no, depends on the engine, tho. A carbed 2 liter would pull less above 5000 rpm, but if you keep your foot in it then it should still go to redline.
I had a near stock 1800 that I have at 8000 on several occasions in first and second gears.

What about the other gears?
I don't think I see much more "pull" in first gear after 5000 rpm. I usually upshift by then and then the car pull nicely from 3500 to around 5500.
Perhaps have a look to see if the belt has skipped a cog on intake or exhaust side...
