fuel rail to fuel pressure regulator fittings

Post by micbrody »

I purchased a third party fuel pressure regulator with integrated pressure gauge. However, the third party regulator uses hose barbs with clamps for connecting both inflow and outflow.
I went to home depot, Advanced Auto, and Autozone. I was unable to find any fittings to connect to the fuel rail. (I actually did not bring fuel rail along; instead I brought regulator and tried to find either: a male-male converter so I could directly fit one end of fitting into regulator, and other end into fuel rail; if I couldn't find that, I would settle for a fitting that would go into rail and other end would be a barb fitting.
I had no luck finding anything that was same as input to old pressure regulator.

Any info appreciated

I've done this conversion, we have a couple of hydraulic hose companies here in oz that solved my problem?

That elbow below the gauge cost me a lot as it was a high pressure elbow but it was the only one that had the correct thread. I have since removed it as the gauge kept unwinding itself and now have the gauge straight into that port.

Check out the Edelmann brass catalog.

They have tons of fittings and most are available either on-line or at an auto parts store.

Thanks for reference.
I went through catalog; did not see what I think I need (big emphasis on "think"). Unless someone can tell me the exact specs of connector from rail to pressure regulator, I probably will have to go to plan B:

Plan B: Replace either pressure regulator and/or fuel pump.

When car runs, it accelerates fine. But the starting is intermittently good and bad; and per previous posts( I hooked temporary pressure gauge to CSI line; and then just past fuel pump; sometimes I would have pressure (different all the time; 25, 21, 38; sometimes none), I think it's a fuel pressure issue.

I think either it's an intermittently leaky check valve in fuel pump; or an intermittently bad pressure regulator.

The pump has always (I have had car since Nov 2014) had a high pitched whine; I assume that is normal.

Any recommendations of good fuel pumps that won't cost a fortune?

The fuel pressure readings should be pretty stable, those are all over the place. It has been written that a really noisy fuel pump is defective and about to go...

a noisy electric pump can indicate air in the pump rather than fuel. That might be the reason for erratic pressure

The noise is constant; doesn't change frequency. If air, I would think I would hear a more variable sound.
If it is air, does that mean pump is defective ? Or a loose fitting ?

The problem must be that the pressure regulator has metric fittings, while everything at the hardware store is standard.
