Releasing Half Moon end stop on clutch cable
1981 2000. I figured my worries were over when I managed to remove the gorilla spring on the clutch pedal using the washer trick. Little did I know there was a second hurtle to get over. I have undone the clutch cable at the bell housing and snaked it up to the engine compartment. Crawled under the dash and can see the half moon end stop inside the fork on the clutch pedal. I thought I could just push back on the cable and have it release from the rear of the fork, but no too easy. There is a small white plastic fitting, around the metal cable, that limits the amount that you can push the cable back. Maybe 3/16". Does the white plastic fitting snap off the metal cable to allow the cable more rearward motion to release from the fork? Or am I supposed to somehow push the cable around the fork and release it that way? Seem very difficult to do that. What should the pedal position be in to get the cable out of the fork , all the way up or all the way to the floor? I am just not getting this set up. Could someone give me a heads up on how to get the half moon out of the fork? RB

This may or may not be helpful, I haven't done a 124 clutch cable in over 25 years. I used to push the pedal to the floor, put a zip tie around the cable where it comes out of the firewall, this stops the cable from sliding back in to the outer sheath. Then lift the pedal up to maneuver the end out of the fork.

Re: Releasing Half Moon end stop on clutch cable
Two weeks ago I did mine. Seems my 1970 must have had original cable as I also had the small plastic keeper. I could not get it off by hand. I am not saying this was a good way to do it but I could not figure any other way and used a flexible inspection camera to see what was happening. I put a block of wood under the clutch pedal and with the inspection camera I had a fairly thin long screwdriver - put it in place by way of camera and hit it with hammer a few times and finally broke the plastic. I could not believe how hard the plastic was after all these years. Worked - did not seem to damage the metal fork - but there must be a better way but I could not think of one.

Re: Releasing Half Moon end stop on clutch cable
I managed to install mine on a 1980 spider without undoing the clutch pedal springs etc.
First wormed the "end thingy" into the pedal first (after sliding it through the firewall for outside in of course) Then used a hand clamp on the lever are of the transmission mimicking the pedal in the pressed position , but it was actually in the up position giving more than a comfortable amount of slack to hook the "end thingy" into the lock and release the clamp slowly. Took me no more than 20 minutes in all and didn't even have to jack the car up.......
