symptoms of magnet upside down in dizzy

I rebuilt the dizzy, it had motor oil going up the shaft dripping on manifold
The new magnetic pick up I put in - Well the new magnet was not marked to show top and bottom. (the old one came out in pcs) The new pick up and magnet were taped together, I installed them that way. (Yes I removed the tape).
I set the gap to 0.015".
I have played with this gap everywhere from 0.022" to 0.010".
Car runs, but not well, a very small band of ignition timing and it sound like my grand-pa's old hand crank tractor. I can not give throttle.
Does anyone know the symptoms of the magnet being upside down in dizzy?

I'm not sure what symptoms flipping the magnet will give, but my car ran horribly (similar to your description) with too small of a gap. I'm out of town on business, but if I recall correctly the gap is supposed to be around .032 inch. So I think you never got the gap set correctly. Most of us use the flap from the box as a non-magnetic feeler gauge. Try that first to see if your problem goes away.

I believe the gap is supposed to be 0.3-0.4mm, ie. 0.012-.016".

If the magnet is reversed it will run like crap (ask me how I know). When I reversed the magnet it wouldn't start , then backfired, etc. Once I figured it out I noticed a scribe mark on the magnet and the metal pickup base that was there to get it right. Check if you have those scribe marks and if they are aligned.

Well for lack of any thing else working I flipped the magnet and ver room: that was last week.
