There is a third option: Do no use the std cam box gasket, make your own from thinner material. Forth option: re- cut the valve seat to drop the valves deeper.

When my head was reworked recently my machine shop did exactly that, ground the seats a little to give a slightly taller valve height. With the Bayless regrind cams I ended up in the 4.2 to 4.4 shim range on all cylinders. BTW, hotter cams normally call for smaller clearances as well.

Lots of articles that would cause me to try to avoid spring caps under the buckets.

Which is why I also has them de-shroud the underside to some extent.
