transmission shutter

Post by BammBamm »

My spider is the only one I have driven. When I take off in 1st gear there is a shutter while engaging the clutch. I replaced the tranny and engine mounts. It got much better. When its cold it is fine but once everything is warmed up i get the shutter. Is it a glazed clutch?

My car was doing the same thing, and swapping out the giubo/guibo/flex disk seemed to make the problem go away. I've only managed about 100 miles since swapping it out, but it seems to be resolved (knock on wood). If you haven't replaced yours, you might see what happens. The parts are fairly cheap (about $30) and easy to replace; and failure at road speed sounds potentially disastrous.

Might also want to check the drive shaft pillow block/ bearing while you are under there.

The flex looked good but I had a new one sitting one the shelf. I will let you know if that cures it. The drive shaft has already been rebuilt and a new carrier bearing. I got another clutch too if the flex doesnt fix it. Right now its still up on stand for the complete brake rebuild.

I'm glad to hear you had positive results. My flex disc looked good too, until I twisted it--at which time I could see a bunch of small cracks were developing.
