To recycle crankcase ventilation or not?

Post by Jimb »

I have a question for you mechanic gurus out there.

Is it better for the engine to recycle the crankcase ventilation back through the carb or through a filter and then into the atmosphere? I realize the Fiat is designed as a closed system, but at one time previous owner had changed the stock setup and installed a filter on the end of the breather hose. Does having a supercharger make any difference?

Jim,
I tend to like stock set-ups, so I'd recommend getting the PCV system back in order. If your piston rings are good and you don't get much blow-by, the crankcase venting should not be a performance issue. I would recommend checking all the passages that the vapors go through, as many times people unhook these things because the passages are all plugged up with gunk. No clue on the turbo question, but I bet someone will have some thoughts.

Jim,
I would keep it. AFAIK the PCV system helps improve the life of the engine by drawing out moisture without much downside ( unless your rings are shot )

Oh and by the way, there is no PCV valve.
