Engine compression? What are good numbers?

Post by Betis »

I have a 81 Spider with a 2000 FI Engine. The compression is 132 in all. What are good numbers?
Thanks in advance

for a stock motor, around 155. Make sure the motor is warm, all the spark plugs are out and you hold the throttle wide open when you crank. Another measure of engine compression "goodness" is if all four cylinders are withiin 10% of each other.

Those are good. How many miles does the engine have on it?

Not sure if 30000 or 130000. My engine looks really clean, no leaks. But who knows. It is really possible that is 30000, but who knows. It could have been rebuilt.

In my experience a bran new rebuilt stock compression ratio engine will be ~150 psi. A good runner with many miles will have ~120 psi.
