So with all the newer small cars coming out to electric power steering, has everyone investigated or complemented engineering a solution for our Spider ?
Anyone think it's possible ?
Thanks

A Dutch company offers it:

The 124 is listed as an application, and here is a report from a 124 owner:

Thanks for the replies - so we know it's possible, now just need to find out the costs.

it's being made for classic ladas, so it should be pretty much bolt on for 124.
there's also proper oil and pump power steering box for lada 4x4 which also fits 124 with some mods.

A well done electric is best since you do not have a constant loss of performance and fuel economy that you get from the hydraulic. I like that you maintain just about everything stock so that its easily returnable to manual and when it fails unlike a hydraulic system steering effort goes back to normal manual and not to the extreme level of difficulty normally associated with failed hydraulic power steering. That is tune-able to your liking is also icing on the cake as the expression goes.
