Oil Pan Removal (2L FI)

Post by RRoller123 »

I want to remove my 2L FI oil pan for dent repair or pan replacement. I have never done this. For those who have, does this Mirafiori procedure work? Or is there some other better method? Or a modification to this method? It seems like there should be reference to removing some sort of mounts for the transmission?

http://www.mirafiori.com/faq/content/2Loilpan.htm

Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

I changed my pan gasket a few months ago. I used the Mirafiori method to remove the pan, and it worked fine. Getting the oil pump out and then back in is a pain (be prepared to drop your oily ratchet about 500 times), but definitely doable.

I had a problem with the drivers side motor mount. I couldn't undo the top bolt. As I was replacing the motor mounts anyway, I unbolted the motor mount bracket from the engine, and was able to do the nut when it was out.

Are you replacing the oil pump?

Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it and it is very helpful! I am not sure about replacing the oil pump. I don't have any evidence that it needs it, the oil pressure seems fine, the red idiot light works and behaves normally, never comes on during any cornering, but the pan is pretty well dented in so the pump may have some damage. I will have to examine it when I get the pan off.

Thanks to all the posts about the oil pan removal I was able to replace my pan gasket. Everything was fine until I lowered the engine, any tip in to how to place back the engine on it's mounts? due to the angle the bolts are about 1'' away from the hole.

Could you loosen the nuts on the underside of the engine mounts just enough to get them into place, then tighten everything back up?

I had to take them both off then wrestle them in to place, couple of nuckles bruised after, all set.
Thanks!
