1967 Fiat 124 Coupe Prototype

I hadn't seen this before, so I'm posting for others who may not have, either. I saw it in the pininfarina_spider Instagram feed.

I was surprised that there was a 124 design that looked so much like Tom Tjaarda's Corvette Rondine. The roof and wraparound rear window are exactly the same as the Rondine's.

this one comes up every now and then, it was Pininfarina proposal for the coupe, fiat went in house for the coupe.

It is very pretty, I really love the rear screen on that car. As we all now the coupe has a longer wheel base, I imagine this one would be the same as the spider??

That is what I was wondering too. The rear window is much longer than a Spider, so the trunklid must be shorter? It does not look that much shorter, so I wonder if it has the longer wheelbase. Maybe the door is longer?

It would be great if someone would recreate that design!

Indeed. If they had built that design, I think it would have become legendary and very much in demand today. It's simply fantastic, though the wraparound window likely would have been deemed out of style after the '60s. It's amazing that the Spider's design during the many years of the production remained relatively unmolested, by automobile standards.

I think it is the same wheel base as Spider. The rear panoramic window is on position of upper body panel, which is located between rear seats and trunk. So I think there was no need to trunk be shorter. This was intention to put original Rondine shapes and lines to Fiat dimensions and mechanical capabilities. But prototype was not accepted, so as we all know, Fiat realised it in house, a bit more convetionally.
