Best Carb for 1608?

Post by 70spider »

I am currently in the process of building a 1608. It will be ~9.5:1 compression, performance head (Ported/polish), Performance intake cam/stock exhaust cam, 1800 intake, and AR Abarth header. On my 1438 I currently have the 32/36 DFEV progressive. I was thinking about the 38 DGES synchronous. Also was thinking about an electric fuel pump (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00XLW ... H30CTCT68T) instead of the mechanical.
Any ideas on what would be the best system?

I would use the 32/36 to get it running, as you know it works well. You want to have as few unknowns as possible when you start running a new engine.
You can upgrade later to a larger carb once the engine is broken in and you know everything works well.

If the meachanical fuel pump works I would keep it. Both electric and mechanical work fine.

Just a question for the op or anyone really. Did you eventually get the 38 on there and how was the fitment under your hood? I was thinking about it but I have heard that without the bubble hood from a later model fiat( I have a 71 1608) that it will not fit with the standard air filter? Any insight would be appreciated!

low speed driveability won't be great with a 38dges but it will provide lots of top end
