81 spider (changed my mind)

Post by juvius »

Hello everyone. It's been a while since I've had a spider, but I'm just about back. I found this 81 that I'm picking up.

Looks good!
Hopefully it will drive as well, as it doesn't look like its moved for a while. Good luck moving the refrigerator!

Let us know how it runs out ...

It should be ok.... full clean jug of coolant, clean oil, and no oil under the car. He swears I can drive it home but I don't want to fire it up before I change the belts and put fresh gas in it. I couldn't find a spot of rust, but as you can see in the pics, there's not much room to really get around. It's going to be fun getting out, not only is the refrigerator in the way, his yard is just as cluttered as his garage. It took me 20 minutes to clear the clutter off and around the car just to get a better look at it. But I figure at $2500 I can't go wrong

By the way.... does anyone recognize those wheels? They are 14" and Google was not my friend. I haven't seen them before. It'll end up with a set of Mark's wheels by summer time anyways. Just curious

Welcome back! I remember you completing a build with the modern side view mirrors and bucket tail lights. in fact i think you had another one for the wife. Your build seemed like a real gem!
I'm sure you'll lead the 81 through a similar path!

It's going be beautiful-er, after a nice wash and polish.
I too have an '81, with zero rust. Love it!
I'd post a pic, but I'm not sure how to do it from my phone.
Cheers

Those wheels look really familiar. Very close to the lattice wheels on the Vauxhall Nova, painted black.

Is that an original pininfarina top color coded to match?

I haven't had a chance to really check that kind of stuff out. I'm not even sure how I'd figure out if that top is original. any suggestions? Is there a way to find the built sheet by vin#?

The top looks like a Slimline to me.

Welcome back. Can't wait to see what you do with this one.
