Mufflers

Post by 70spider »

Well I was hoping I could hold off on doing the exhaust system until I get the 1608 built but the resonator and muffler have both rusted out and the exhaust leaks from the pipe is getting out of hand. The old muffler is an Ansa but from what I have read their quality is a bit suspect. So I thought perhaps another brand, with a single outlet, maybe borla or magnalow? I drive the car 3-5 days a week so something not to loud but still have that Italian sound would be great, so any thoughts? Another question is if I go with a 2.25" pipe is that to large of a diameter?

with a 1608 I'd stay with 2". Neither Borla nor Magnaflow will give you an Italian sound. I'd go with a Hushpower H2 muffler

Autoricambi sells a nice sport exhaust. Looks stock but larger pipes and a single oval outlet. Have one on my 73 spider and am happy with it. It's a complete system from the downpipe back.

the hushpower as the single silencer in the system?

since i'm finally finishing up other work on the bottom side of my '72 Coupe, I figured I'd ditch the slightly extended vintage-but-very-solid-etc. Abarth downpipe-back system in favor of something 2" and perhaps a single muffler. I had this on my very modified '74 Spider and besides disturbing some old ladies & setting off alarms in parking garages I actually did like it and it didn't drone badly. It was best later when the exhaust note harmonized with dual IDF induction, but that won't be the case yet on my Coupe.
