Car not getting fuel

I was driving my 1981 spider a few days ago. It would run but did not accelerate smoothly and felt like it was not getting consistent fuel. I was driving it recently and it completely died. It will start and run for 30 seconds and then dies again. Seems like it is not getting fuel but not sure. Any advice on what to check next?

Fuel filter?
If good then perhaps an air leak before the intake housing.(unmetered air)
How are the brakes? If hard and a rush of air sound under the dash when depressing the brake pedal, I'd suspect the booster is hooped and allowing un metered air into the system. I had this problem (with the air and hard pedal)with my 80FI and car was fine after replacing the booster.

You could work through Brad Artigue's FI Manual as well, it has step by step instructions for testing the FI components.
