How does the jack go and how is it held. Any pictures and instructions will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Original Jack placement and install?
On most Spiders up to 1982 it goes on the right side rear wheel well and is held by a rubber strap.

Re: Original Jack placement and install?
My opinion is that if we actually carry it this way, it will wobble around and bung the fender from the inside. It is a precarious setup for sure, and the plate that the jack sits on is weak and the whole stackup wobbles. I only put mine in place for cruise nights, etc. Carry it elsewhere for general driving. The owner's manual does NOT show the configuration in the picture. It shows the plastic toolbox being held down by the jack. So I built a small wooden box and attached it to the rear bulkhead, to carry the various bits necessary when roaming.

Each year may have been a little different.
My 76 has the jack and rubber strap on the right wheel well and the tool box and the rubber strap on the left wheel well.

Re: Original Jack placement and install?
In he early 90's I noticed a small ding appear one day on my passenger side fender when getting out of the car. I had just washed the car minutes before and knew it was not there before the drive and I had not hit anything. The jack had shifted and created the smallest of dings that most likely only I could see. From that point on I wrapped the jack a few times in a towel wedging it into the proper spot. Since it is tucked away behind the panel not ugly eye sore. Benefit of a towel in the car at all times. Three spiders later and I still wrap the jack in a towel and wedge it so it will not move. I know, not ideal.... but nobody sees the jack or the towel.
Buon giro a tutti! - enjoy the ride!

Make sure you strap it down! Mine wasn't when I bought the car & now I have little punched out dents in the fender where the jack bounced against the inside of the fender.
