What is this mounting tab used for?

Post by kmoses »

What if is this mount used for (tab attached to the pinch weld just in front of the top retaining bow)? I am missing the one on the drivers side and if I need it, now would be the time replace it,

I may be wrong but I believe it is there to catch the drain tub under the rear window and align it tight to the outside when you pull the top up. I have never figured out why there is a hole in it so hopefully someone has an answer for that.
You should have one on each side and they should not be angled, but point straight down. Hope that helps!

The "drain tub" you referred to, is that the U shaped metal that is at the bottom of the rear quarter windows? I think I need to install the top and see how and where the two come in contact. Thanks!

the wire that goes through the side of the top is supposed to go through the hole in route to the clamp

I knew about the wire going to the clamp but I completly missed the part about routing it through the hole in the tabs! Thanks! I have spent the last few days welding up all the "extra" holes that have been added to the car at mounting/attaching points in the back seat area. There were about five holes around every mounting location just for the trim that covers the back convertible top bow.

Appreciate all the revelations here since I still need to put my new top on also. Ran into a snag since the roll bar is bolted through some of the rear trim panels and needs to be removed before I can deal with the clamps and cables.
