I purchased a 72 BC coupe with a disassembled engine - unclear if the transmission matches, it has the floating pin pistons which appear hard to find, and many other questions before my rebuild. I currently have a line on a running 1756. I have also gathered that the 1756 might be too tall for the hood but I'm not certain.
Can any one share some light on the feasibility and obstacles of doing this swap? Thanks -
Will a 78 1756 fit in a 72 spider?
any advice on a engine swap for a 72 coupe?

I have had a number of 1756 engines in my BC coupe. They go right in with no clearance issues. You can put a 2.0L in it, but I recommend you swap the cross member for a 2.0L cross member to provide hood clearance, and you'll have to think through header fitment as most will make contact with the top of the oil pan where the downpipe sweeps back.

I put a 2L in my 73 coupe with no problem. Used the coupe crossmember and exhaust. Even had plenty of room for my dual IDFs.

Once upon a time I put an 1800 into a '72 Coupe It fit fine, though at the time I didn't have the factory turtleback for the dual carbs, just a pair of cute chrome aircleaners. All year 5 speeds will match up to the 1800 and it'll fit right onto the engine mounts. I believe that the stock engine mounts are the boingy-springy ones. Personally I would suggest the more modern versions available from vendors - even if they are in good shape visually, engine mounts from 1972 arne't really any good anymore, and the new ones are better.

I know he has a '72, but this statement in itself is not true, as the 5-speed from a 1438cc car would not bolt up to a 1800 unless the bellhousing is replaced.
