Brake line ferrules

Post by jandarah »

Hi,
Does anyone know the thread size of the screw ferrules on the hard brake lines that attach to the flexible hoses, front and back? I am in the process of changing to braided lines. Other sizes of the banjo bolts appear to 3/8". However, these mongrels don't want to screw in to the new braided hoses. Are they metric?

Thanks,

I can answer my own question after a bit of measuring of threads with some thread files. It seem that the threads on the caliper side are 3/8" 24tpi and the threads on the hardline side are 3/8" 20tpi. This will mean a remake of the HEL braided lines (which can be done quite easily, so I am told). I also found a fifth hose underneath near the diff. Threads on both side appear to 3/8" 20tpi. That hose will change to braided.

I'm sure having two different threads makes some sense, just that I cannot see it.

Hi Steve,

Yes, I just found my metric thread file with the 1.25mm pitch and it fits well. Without doing the maths, apparently 20tpi and 1.25mm are very close.
It will turn out ok in the end, but a pain in the rear, especially when I am well away from the hose shop in Brisbane and can't just "duck" in there and sort it out. My wife is mailing them back today for reworking and to supply a braided hose for that hidden fifth hose that goes between the rear axle T piece and the underbody. I will be hopefully braking again soon.
