I like it because they report on a lot of the auctions, writing up interesting cars. You don't see Spiders often, but here is a nice one, but it didn't sell with a $10K bid.



And the reporter's write up:

Lot # 1163 1980 Fiat 2000 Spider, Body by Pininfarina; S/N 124CS20161113; Blade Silver Metallic/Dark Red vinyl; Black cloth top; Older restoration, 2- condition; Not sold at Hammer bid of $10,000. With Reserve. Nardi woodrim steering wheel, JVC CD stereo, Team Dynamics 12-spoke alloy wheels, luggage rack. – Very good paint, good interior, fair chrome. Ugly DOT bumpers. Old undercoat. Sound body with even gaps and flush panel fits. – This is easily one of the best Fiat 124/2000 Spiders around, a sound and thoroughly done restoration that went deeper than the cosmetics and should have brought a few dollars more than the reported high bid. But not many more.

Its a CS2. Not worth five figures yet. The fuel injected cars simply go for more money, which I think is an ignorant view...but valuing a CS2 with aftermarket rims at $10k is rather silly to begin with.

Would you clarify what is meant by "its a CS2"; it is my understanding the CS2 is a part of the VIN, does it have any impact on the value of the car?

CS2 is a part of the VIN, but it in fact refers to the "generation" of Spider as well

Different year models had different codes like CS0, CS1, CS2, etc

If you go to this site: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiat_124_Sport_Spider you'll see a list of Spiders by year and VIN. In 1980, both Fuel Injected and Carb Versions were sold. The VIN of the car above, starting with CS2, indicates a carb version.

To each his own but I very much like the look of the Team Dynamics wheels on a Spider. IMHO they update the car (which I know is anathema to a lot of the posters here). I'm biased of course a I have a set on my car because I can't see running the paltry 13" stockers (hard to find decent tires) and I get tired of every Spider on the planet with aftermarket wheels running the same five spoke mini-light knockoffs (a British car wheel! ).




That said, my last Spider, a 2000 FI I had a set of Mark's wheels in the smoked finish and they also looked very nice. Again, IMHO. I guess it comes down to do you want to look at it or drive it? I prefer a 15" wheel with some meat on the tires.
