Transmission Rebuild Guide?
Is there a " Idoits Guide to Rebuilding the Fiat Spider Manual Transmission"? I have a IAP shop manual and a parts book that gives all the part numbers, but both lack the detail needed for a first time rebuilder. I don't want to just swap out old parts with new, I would like to be able to tell the difference between good and bad parts.

Re: Transmission Rebuild Guide?
I'm no idiot but I did make some mistakes when I did this recently. Search my posts and others here. The Brooklands Fiat book was very helpful to me - step by step and photos. I posted photos here to ask if certain parts needed replacing. It didn't make sense to me to "just replace everything" because some of the parts aint cheap, especially some bearings. I replaced two bearings, the inexpensive small roller bearing and the input shaft bearing because my input shaft (fourth gear) showed wear. It did seem worth it to replace all the brass synchros and springs and also the 1-2 and 3-4 forks which are crucial. I also went out and bought a HF hydraulic press to push off bearings and such but a local garage probably has one. Also need an impact screwdriver. Hard part was getting the thing in and out. Good luck!

Re: Transmission Rebuild Guide?
Is that the "Fiat 124 Coupe, Spider, 2000 Spider Repair Manual 1971-1984" by Brooklands (I have it) or "Fiat 124 Sport, Coupe, Spider Repair & Service Manual 1968-1978" by Haynes, or another? Please let me know where to get it and I will order it.
Also, I received your book last week. I was good reading and full of good information.

Re: Transmission Rebuild Guide?
I used to have a link and/or pdf of a step by step rebuild but can't seem to find it...am going out the door but will look again in the next couple of days
here is a link to a resource, http://ladaniva.co.uk/baxter/resources/Gearbox.htm not sure of what differences compared to Fiat 124 but the inspection link has some good info as do the dis-assembly and assembly just another resource that might be worthwhile to peruse
