Transmission seal question

Post by zachmac »

Put the transmission back together and filled it up with 1 3/4 qts GL-1 and sloshed it around to fill the tail etc. Notice it weeping like mad out for the front into the bell housing. I put in a new seal in the "cup" but maybe I did it wrong?

It was weeping (fast) out the little hole shown above.

The seal is NOT seated all the way up on the cup. See below. Should it be? Is the seal facing the right way (pretty sure it is)? I had a heck of a time just getting it to seat this far and as you can see banged it up pretty good. Please advise.

Crap, checking online at two vendors who sell the cup with the seal installed it looks like I did put it in backwards! That would explain why it was so darn hard to get started!

Guess I get a new one on the way, Maybe just spring for the new cup with it installed so I can't screw it up!

there are two different front seals, each has it's own unique inside diameter. If you use the wrong one you'll never stop the leak

It's backward and pressed in too deep.
