Engine bay paint color

Post by 76124 »

So I am upgrading to a 2.0 and in doing so I am repairing shock tower rust as well as some engine bay paint issues due to leaking break fluid. Anyway the car was painted some 26 years ago by the PO a metalic brown. Original color was flat brown from factory. After 25 yrs I have come to like the brown and there are not many around. Anyway, I plan to repaint the entire car a similar color soon, but for now just the engine bay so I don't have to pull out the engine later. Anyway, should the bay be painted the same metalic color as the body, or the same color less the metalic? Probably a personal choice but curious what others have done.

Just a personal preference. Paint the engine bay the same color as the rest of the car. However, if that is not possible because of the timing of the rebuild then I would paint the engine bay a different color on purpose. For example, if a white car consider black (always a good choice and easy) or for a black car consider a red engine bay. first option should be a match. I really don't like when the engine bay is a couple noticeable shades off from the rest of the car in color. If it is not going to match make a statement.

I would suggest touching up the engine bay with the same color that is in there now.

I did a complete color change. There is a lot of work required to pull components and masking in the engine bay. Much simpler to touch up in the current color. Especially if you like it.

The bay is already void of everything so that part is done. Need to reinforce clutch pass through and needed to pull the staring box to repair paint. As said..fair amount of work and then there is getting it all back together.
