Hey guys,
There's a sound that's been bugging me for awhile. I've made a few observations, but maybe can still narrow it down with your help.
There's a clicking noise that I hear at low speed while in reverse. It does speed up and slow down with the wheel speed, so I'm fairly certain it has to do with one of the front wheels/suspension/bearing/something.
I don't hear it while going slow in forward (1st or 2nd), I don't hear it if I get moving in reverse and keep moving in neutral (to rule out anything transmission related), and I don't hear it at higher speeds at all.
My first instinct would be wheel bearing but i have no experience diagnosing that.

When you hear it, does it stop with light brake pressure?
Also, depending on your wheel type, my plastic center caps make a clicking sound at slow speeds.

Hey Kevin,
I tested out the brake pressure this morning. I found the noise doesn't go away with any amount of brake pressure (light, med, or heavy). It's only proportional to the speed so it goes away as I slow to a stop and returns when I start moving in reverse again.
By center caps do you mean hubcaps?
Andrew

You may have actual hub caps, in which case they are not the source of the ticking unless you have rocks in them. Mine look like this and rattled until I added a rubber band on the prongs that secure them.

Ok, gotcha
I'm on steel wheels with no hubcaps or centercaps. My next step will be to lift the front end up and turn the wheels by hand in reverse and see if the noise comes out
