1800 Badge

I'm having my '75 124 repainted and am attempting to clean and/or replace all of the trim and lights.
I have the 1800 badge which looks like it should have a background color between the numbers and border.
I'd like to know if this is so, or if it was originally all silver.

I asked about this a couple months ago and someone offered that the background was originally black. I also asked if anyone knew the exact color of the blue on the "unleaded fuel only" badge, but that remained a mystery.
