In the process of looking for a timing belt cover to properly spark time my '74 1800 spider, I was also searching for the upper bracket that both holds the cover and has cam timing pointers. In my search for the bracket I found this one on at an Ohio parts dealer. (I hope its okay to post a link)

I'm wondering if this is the right bracket for my application. It says its for "de-smogged" vehicles. My 1800 engine has an empty air-pump bracket and the additional belt area on the exhaust cam gear so I'm assuming this means its's been "de-smogged". What exactly is the is the difference between this bracket and a standard one? Currently I have the cam gears aligned with the little pointers that stick up on cam housings.
"De-Smogged" timing belt cover bracket.
Re: "De-Smogged" timing belt cover bracket.
besides having pointers for cam gear timing, that bracket mounts the timing cover. If you still have the double exhaust cam gear it won't fit
Re: "De-Smogged" timing belt cover bracket.
Thank you @Mark Allison. This brings up another question. Do the pointers on the "de-smogged" bracket reference the same positions as those pointers on the cam housing? seems like a dumb question but I dont want to overlook the obvious.
Re: "De-Smogged" timing belt cover bracket.
yes, the front and rear pointers are in the same positions
