radio console-can't secure it back in.

Post by POCOFIAT »

I am a newer owner of a '79 Pinn--lots of fun and I have been chipping away at the interior. I took the radio/center console out to try to fit an original radio back in- won't work as the previous owner cut a bigger hole in the slot to fit a Sony CD- so after months I got around to putting it all back together. Now my problem is when I line it all up I cannot see anything for a screw to grab hold of to keep the thing in place! The original mounting screw hole hit air. Any words of wisdom would help

There should be two holes on each side on the bottom of the radio console. These holes line up with holes on the top of the shifter console (to which the radio console attaches). You just have to shimmy both pieces around until the holes line up.

I put an ice pick through the radio console screw hole and it's long enough to put it into the hole in the center console. Then I move the radio console to align it, hold it in place and exchange the ice pick for a screw.

ice pick? do you still use an ice box and have it delivered in large blocks each week? Maybe they'll discover electricity in your neck of the woods some day

Slow down there, Mark. We just recently get to enjoy sunlight that's being piped in. Electricity? I set traps out in the woods and put the varmits I catch on a wheel so they can generate electricity.

Got it all sorted out---went to a all Italian Car show here in Vancouver and got lots of help. What happen is we dropped one of those cheap centre consol covers over the old one ( 6 coats of paint....) and that covered the orginal holes in the bottom...the top ones are still a mystery but it is now tighlty in place until my wiring needs attention.....

Ice pick....so many old movies come to mind....
