Help finding restoration parts
Help finding restoration parts
I need a new chrome piece for the front of my 71 drivers side rear window and the rubber seal. Source?
Also, does anyone know what wheel cap is appropriate style and size for this wheel? Tried abarth repro...too small.
Finally I would like to replace the hood insulation with a visually authentic material. Any sources?

Mark, some of the people who might be able to help you are on the road to the Poconos. Ventura Ace has several doors I know of, but I'm not sure if he has the rear window. I'm sure they'll be checking in though.

Re: Help finding restoration parts
if you want those parts new, rather than used there are only a couple of vendors that might be able to help. I'd try Chris Obert, Bruces or Spiderpoint
Re: Help finding restoration parts
Thanks, I'll wait until everyone gets back before I do anything. I don't have to have new parts as long as the old ones are in good shape.
As far as the hood liner goes, I think that would need to be new in order to last.

Re: Help finding restoration parts
The rims are BWA's and they were a pain to find center caps for them in the 80's I wouldn't even want to even think what it would be like now.Even if you do get them I remember that they didn't fit to well in the first place. I think I ended up using a knock out seal for electrical boxes as they would snap into the hole and then you could put a sticker on it.
Re: Help finding restoration parts
Thanks Brad, I'll start looking around. Do you know what the original design for those caps was, e.g. red fiat logo or black fiat letters or scorpion etc?
Re: Help finding restoration parts
I went out and got the knock-out seals for electrical boxes. the closest thing they had to the original size was 2 1/2 inch diameter. The prongs are slightly too wide. If I flatten them, the cap is a good fit. Would epoxy or some other adhesive hold these in place adequately or would I be risking killing a pedestrian with a tiny silver frisbee?
Re: Help finding restoration parts
update: found and received the rear window parts from Spiderpointe...thanks So Cal Mark.
Still working on the wheel caps. In the meantime does anyone know a source for BWA caps. I haven't been able to satisfactorily use the electrical box knock outs.
Also no source for the quilted underhood insulation yet found.
Now that all you guys are back from the Poconos, any ideas?

Re: Help finding restoration parts
Hey I found it! All this time I've been looking in automotive sites and not audio/acoustic (Duh!).

Check out the data sheet and colour chart as well!
Very similar to what we use in the aircraft... might be too thick, but it's a start. The black looks good!

Hey Mark ,that stuff looks great. Make sure it is the high temp, though! I looked for a year for a quilted material ,finally settled on dynamat.Works great ,but I am not crazy with the look.We might be able to work something out if this stuff works...that piece is big enough for multiple hoods!

Re: Help finding restoration parts
According to the technical data sheet for the "AudioSeal Absorber Blanket AQFA-10EXT" - Temperature Range: -90° to +500° F, Impressive to say the least!
4' X 8' sheet for $176... that should be enough to do 2 hoods fully...

Re: Help finding restoration parts
Did a 71 flat hood even have insulation? I don't think it did.

Re: Help finding restoration parts
Mine (71) doesn't, and I don't know if it ever did.
However, I am getting this for my 1973 which did, and does and it is hanging in shreds at the edges.
This stuff looks amazingly similar to the original material...at least in the pictures.
