Rear Window

Post by bonsaiwino »

Hello everyone, The plastic window on my '79 Spider is somewhat fogged, although the top is in excellent condition. I've gotten it as clean as it can get with a good cleaner,. So, now it seems I'm left with a problem/decision. My local convertible top shops are telling me I should replace the entire top. Like I said, the rest of the top looks great. My question is -- is there a way to replace only the window? Thanks!

To properly replace the window, you'd have to remove the top and reinstall it. It would be less expensive to replace the top entirely and it would last longer.

You may want to try the product I discovered in this post: http://www.fiatspider.com/f08/viewtopic ... &sk=t&sd=a
I was amazed at the results.

I just wiped mine down with 100% alcohol and applied DuPont Teflon Car Polish and its lasted about a year out in the Florida Sunshine however the top is well past time for replacement.

I purchased a bottle of Acrylic Werks for $25. To my knowledge, it is only available from the inventor/manufacturer. After carefully reading the application directions, I watched the you tube instructional video. Then I carefully followed the application process on both sides of the plastic window. Bottom line -- the plastic window on my Spider looks better than it did before I started but is still not completely clear. When I realized that I now was left with 95% `of my purchase, I called the owner of the Acrylic Werks Company. He explained that the product could be used on a wide variety of surfaces, including clear coat, plastic & rubber trim, & headlamp covers. Please note: I was told that if Acrylic Werks is used on your car's paint, it first removes the wax as it provides a new protective surface. The inventor went on to say that he has used it on his own vehicle & has never had to detail it since.

I'd be curious to hear if other owners have used the product & would like to report on the results.

Thanks, guys.
